Persona 2 Innocent Sin PSP Coming This Month

Persona 2 Innocent Sin PSP

Persona 2 Innocent Sin is a game released on 1999 (12 years back) for the PSX platform that never got released on North America. Atlus is now reviving the series on the PSP platform in full English translation for NA. It's basically another arc of the Persona 2 game. Another version has actually been released called Person 2 Eternal Punishment.

The setting happens on Sumaru City, Japan in a school called Seven Sisters High School. A group of high school students finds their reality being twisted by rumors. The protagonist wears an emblem which was rumored to have been cursed and will disfigure one's face. The  rumor became true, and more string of rumors also became true following that. In order to bring back things to the way they were, they must call on their inner strengths (personas).

Persona 2 Innocent Sin for PSP will have video and audio enhancements. The game will be taking advantage of the PSP's 16:8 screen ratio. Players will also have the choice to select between the original and fully remixed soundtrack. Atlus said that there will be a new interface and sidequests on the climax theatre.

Persona 2 Innocent Sin PSP release date is on September 20, 2011. The game is rated T (Teen) and you can pre-order the game at PlayAsia.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 PSP Review

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

A game released back in September 2009, developed by Savage Entertainment and published by Activision. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is a beat'em up, action RPG PSP game that combines the forces of different Marvel characters.

To tell a little about the story of the game... There is some sort of division among the superheroes (a civil war). The heroes are divided into two parties, mainly lead by two prominent characters such as Iron Man and Captain America.

The dispute was fueled when an attempt to capture an enemy killed a lot of innocent people (including children). The humans passed the Superhuman Registration Act, which basically forces the super heroes to abide by the law set by the US government. Captain America is entirely against it while Tony Stark (Iron Man) is completely up for it.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 PSP Gameplay

You start off by storming into Castle Von Doom which is basically where the comic book story begins. You are first headed by Nick Fury in this mission but he's not playable.

The game allows you to switch between four heroes, you can only control one hero at a time. Your initial heroes would consist of Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, and Wolverine but you will get more heroes (as in A LOT) as you go along. Once you got more heroes, you can edit who your team is composed of. Heroes move a lot like you expect them too! For example, Human Torch gets covered with flame when you fly and Dead Pool can teleport a few steps when you press jump twice.

The character elements basically follow how they should be in the comics and in the real world. For  example, Ice Man can get hit by fire attacks but Human Torch can stand against it.

Captain America Ultimate Alliance 2 Loading Screen

Each hero have their basic moves of attacking, tackling/smash and jumping but they can also perform their own unique moves. You can also perform a fusion attack, which basically combines your point character and another character from your team to perform a powerful move (requires some fusion stars).

There are four round panels displayed on the four corners of the screen. There is a a red, circular shape indicating the character's life and a blue circular shape indicating a character's energy (for use with special attacks).

The game is highly objective-based, like destroy this, destroy that kind of thing. You can interact with objects such as using a big gun, destroy cars (hey, I thought we're the good guys?) boosting the game's interactivity.

You can view each of your hero's profile when you pause the game and you can also upgrade their stats, and the heroes also level up as they gain more experience (by killing enemies) making the RPG element of this game. Each hero is uniquely voiced over and you can hear them talk whenever you make them as point character or you perform some attack.

The graphics is overall very dark and dull somehow. The camera is mostly on isometric view and is rotatable. The camera sometimes switch angles depending on the scenario.

Ultimate Alliance 2 PSP Mission Briefing

I noticed that the game becomes laggy whenever there are a lot of enemies. The written dialog which appears below the screen is also a little distracting since the game is not paused and your attention is taken away during the heat of battle. There is no auto-aim, which makes it awfully annoying that you miss attacks.

The cut scenes is a mixture of both in-game graphics and cinematic. I mostly like the cut scenes with in-game graphics as the cinematic quality really makes you compare the graphical differences.

Ultimate Alliance 2 is a fair game that I think got a little less work than it deserved. Marvel fans would be happy to know that their favorite superhero might actually be in this game (depending on who that is). Entry-level gamers might actually come to appreciate this game, but hardcore gamers will find this quite a disappointment. You can get the game from Amazon or get it along with the first title here.

PlayStation Network Outage Extends To 6 Consecutive Days

PlayStation Network

Much has been brought to Sony's attention as the PlayStation Network has been down for 6 consecutive days now and counting. Aside from multiple gamers complaining, Sony doesn't know if customer credit card information has been compromised.

The PlayStation Network Outage is a drastic move by Sony in order to prevent and investigate a recent incident about external intrusion. According to Sony, re-building the system is part of their move to restore their infrastructure, which would hopefully include additional security once it goes back up.

As of April 25, 2011, Sony has not commited as to when the PSN Outage will be fixed. While online play is drastically affected, there are still a lot of games that gamers can play offline.

The PlayStation Network has been down since April 20, 2011 and Sony has been working around the clock since then to restore it.

It is rumored that the Custom Firmware (CFW) might have paved the way for credit card fraud, thus the reason for the outage. This has NOT BEEN CONFIRMED by Sony and is only a rumor. The issue about credit cards and other personal information is also still under thorough investigation.

Please take note that this is a consolidated information about the issue, some parts might be inaccurate. How is the PlayStation Network Outage issue affecting you?

The 3rd Birthday PSP First Impression

The 3rd Birthday

I had a 30 minute try-out of the new Parasite Eve Game, The 3rd Birthday. It's very unfortunate that we could not provide a full The 3rd Birthday review as of this time, so we'll just quickly drive into the important things that we noticed.

The 3rd birthday story starts on the city of New York... The date is December 2012, when some giant roots suddenly came up from the ground and destroyed everything that got in its way. In order to turn things back, CTI (Counter Twisted Investigation) sent agent Aya Brea back in time to investigate what happened, where it all began. The overdrive, is a process where a person's consciousness is transferred back in time, into another person's body at that time. In the game, Aya Brea is able to take her true form, and able to transfer into another person's body.

The 3rd Birthday PSP Gameplay

The 3rd bithday PSP had a huge leap in terms of graphics, you play in 3rd person view, the environment is in full 3d and the character models were good. The cutscenes were also of high quality, and the animation is smoothly close to real-life movements.

You can change and equip different guns, the only caveat I see is that the game doesn't pause when you switch weapons which makes you vulnerable to attacks. As mentioned above, you can transfer your consciousness to other people in the game and each person you transfer to has different names and have their own health bars. If you die while inside that person's body, it's game over... So you have to wisely switch between people.

You can also now make use of barricades to hide from enemy attacks, simply put Aya behind a barricade and she will automatically duck and hide. While ducking, you can surprise an enemy with an attack but this leaves you exposed as Aya will have to stand up. While in this state, you can scrape left and right, ala-Metal Gear Solid style.

All the PSP controls are fully utilized... The default setting is you move using the analog stick, rotate the camera using the direction buttons, aim using the L trigger and while holding it, use the R trigger to shoot. Switch weapons using the square button and choose which weapon to use with the DPad. You can dive to avoid attacks by pressing x while moving forward.

I had a chance to encounter some normal enemies which were quite aggressive from the start. You also get to fight gigantic bosses, most of which you have to hit on their weak spots in order to defeat.

Parasite Eve The 3rd Birthday

Aya has a special move called "Leberation", which covers Aya in red aura and she's able to move faster and fire powerful attacks from her gun. To some extent, liberation mode helps you survive even when the person you overdrive to reaches zero life. There are several skills that you can use with liberation mode... But I don't know about that anymore since... Hello... This is a 30 minute play, first impression.

The wait was definitely worth it, and it was such a good thing that they released this for the PSP instead of mobile phones. The 3rd birthday is certainly a good reason to keep your PSP, or buy a new one if need be.

The 3rd Birthday PSP Final Thoughts

  • Excellent graphics
  • Interesting gameplay
  • Interesting storyline

PSP Go Review

PSP Go

Given the fact that there are already numerous reviews for the PSP, it would seem redundant to do another PSP Go review. So for this piece, I will just be concentrating on my personal impressions for this portable behemoth rather than go deep into the PSP Go Specs.

Slide design - A lot of my friends seem to hate the PSP Go's new design - but I personally like it. The design makes the PSPgo as a whole smaller - making it more portable. It also makes me look cooler and attract more ladies, haha! ;)

Buttons - The new PSP Go button layout felt a little cramped to me, especially on the triangle, circle, square, x side. When playing in the dark, I often accidentally press the circle button thinking that it's the x button.

But putting that minor complaint aside, the face buttons on the PSPgo actually 'presses' better than older models! I love the 'clicky' feel to it. It sorta feel like the DSi buttons. On the other hand, the shoulder button feels so 'mushy' - I mean, there's no click.

I could easily say that the older models' shoulder buttons felt better. Oh, the select and start buttons - it could get a little getting used to, kinda confusing especially if you have been used to the old side-by-side design in older models.

Other buttons - The first time I unpacked my PSP Go, I was like holy crap, how do you change the volume on this thing. I had like 5 minutes thinking that I can't, haha. Anyway, the volume, equalizer and the brightness controls are now located on the top part of the bottom half - a little inconvenient if you ask me. I would prefer it on front, but oh well.

Bluetooth - Yeah, but as of now, I have not tried it yet (maybe I'll update this when I do). But what the store said is that I could connect my DualShock via bluetooth and use that as a controller, or maybe connect with a bluetooth headset. Those I still have to try.

Screen - Freakin' brighter than my old PSP 1000 and 2000! I'm not sure if PSP 3000's have the same crispiness and vividness. The screen looks a little smaller than usual PSPs though. :)

Storage - The PSP Go has a whopping 16GB worth of internal memory! (Though technically, only 14GB). Anyway, for the external card, it now eats up Memory Stick Micro (M2) flash card. More PSP Go games you can play, the better...

Cable - This one is crap. The old mini-USB compatibility is now gone. It means that old cables from the old PSPs would not work anymore. The new proprietary cable also doubles as the connector to the powerbrick. Speaking of power, the rechargeable battery cannot be replaced by users.

Overall - The PSP Go Price here in the Philippines is about 12k Php or $270 but only $178 in Amazon. It's pretty expensive considering that the 3DS just came out. Nevertheless, I'm very happy with the purchase. :)

Thanks to Kyousuke Kawachi for making this review!

Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley

Harvest Moon Hero of Leaf Valley [psp] [eng] [fullsound]

Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley In the Harvest Moon series, players have been raising crops and tending to adorable livestock for years. In this iteration of Harvest Moon, you receive a farm located in Leaf Valley from your recently deceased grandfather. Before you can collect his things and return home, you’re confronted by three Harvest sprites and the Harvest Goddess who all urge you to stay and help them. It turns out that a capitalist group named FunLand is threatening to level the town and construct an amusement park in its place.

Even though your character has zero farming knowledge and has literally just arrived in the area, you’re tasked with raising $50,000 in two years or else the community is doomed. Fortunately, coughing up the cash is only one way to save your newly inherited home; there are 16 possible pathways to put the kibosh on FunLand’s park. If you successfully complete related storylines, you can help turn the town into a tourist attraction or a nature reserve.

Regardless of how you rescue the land, you’ll need to work odd jobs, plant crops and raise animals in order to make money and maintain a cushy lifestyle. Fishing, mining for ores, chopping down trees for lumber, cooking noms and tending to livestock are the basic ways to make some dough in Leaf Valley.
harvest-moon-hero-of-leaf-valley-eng
harvest-moon-hero-of-leaf-valley-eng(this picture is in JAP version)

Now, I’m aware these activities sound extremely mundane, but there’s an addictive element to the Harvest Moon series that’s hard to pinpoint. All of the mini-games are fairly mindless with the exception of cooking for Martha — she requires you to figure out recipes through trial and error and then remember them the next time you come around — but it’s satisfying to find a rare metal or giant Tuna or acquire a lot of lumber from a tree. Working is only half the battle, though. In order to get anywhere in this town, you need to make nice with your neighbors. Give them gifts from your farm and they’ll be friendlier toward you. Building positive relationships with people also opens up the aforementioned side storylines to help save the town. My major annoyance with these side quests is that once they’re initiated you can’t manually progress them. For example, Chester the town priest instructs you to return to the church another day to help him solve a mystery. I returned over and over and over, just waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. Eventually, the second cutscene played, but it’s a bit frustrating to have little control over how the story moves along.

harvest-moon-hero-of-leaf-valley-eng(this picture is in JAP version)

Like other Harvest Moon games, you’ll be able to marry one of the many townswomen after the FunLand threat has been eliminated. A majority of the girls are easy to woo, but two in particular present more of a challenge than the rest. Alice, the CEO of FunLand and the Harvest Goddess are two brides designed for veterans of the franchise. for PSP 5.50 GEN-D3, 5.03 GEN-C

Dissidia 012 PSP | Dissidia 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy

Dissidia 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy

Dissidia 012 Duodecim is an upcoming game for the PSP. It is sequel to the first game, Dissidia Final Fantasy which debuted back in 2008 (also for the PSP).

In Dissidia Final Fantasy, the story revolved around the goddess of harmony (Cosmos), and the god of dicord (Chaos). Each has summoned warriors to fight alongside them and there goes our Final Fantasy characters.

In Dissidia 012 PSP the conflict continuous between the two gods and warriors are once again summoned. Aside from the new characters that players will be able to play in the game, Dissidia 012 Duodecim also includes new game modes, story missions, and features such as alternate costumes and enhanced combat features.

Tifa Lockheart

Dissidia 012 Duodecim also introduces a new assist system which allows players to call another character in combat. Some characters such as Aerith (available as downloadable content) are available only as an assist while some old Dissidia characters and more are playable in a mode called Dissidia Duodecim Prologus (available through PSN for about $3). Music from different Final Fantasy games are also incorporated in the game such as Jenova's theme from Final Fantasy VII.

One of the most surprising things we've seen is the transition between the graphed/grid stages during Dissidia Final Fantasy to the world map system in Dissidia 012. This is really cool! Even cooler feature includes the Original Quest Mode, which allows players to create their own quests and share it with others.

Dissidia 012 PSP Gameplay

To be honest, we didn't like the first game much... But this one looks very exciting! Especially that Tifa is in it! By the way, the game preserves its fighting game-like nature and speaking of its battle system, there is the EX Modes which makes some characters transform and make them faster or stronger. The EX Mode can be entered when the EX Guage is full. Every character can perform a powerful attack while in EX Mode called the EX Burst. In EX Burst, the player has to timely press a series of keys(buttons) that will appear on the screen.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 PSP First Impression

Valkyria Chronicles 2

Valkyria Chronicles 2 a tactical RPG from SEGA and sequel to the game Valkyria Chronicles which was also released for the PSP and PS3. Valkyria Chronicles 2 story takes place in 1937, 2 years after the first game as a group of young military cadets from Lanseal Royal Military Academy find themselves in the middle of a civil war. The game was released last August 31, 2010.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 PSP Avan

Much of the game mechanics such as selecting classes (Scout, Trooper, Lancer, Engineer,  Technician) were retained but new features are also introduced.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 has a stunning water color style cel-shaded graphics, well modeled characters and vast environment thanks to the CANVAS engine especially developed and redesigned by SEGA for the PSP, Valkyria Chronicles is like playing medal of honor in anime style.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 Briefing Room

But wait, what separates Valkyria Chronicles from first person shooters is that the game has RPG elements. It wouldn't be much of an RPG if you couldn't buy new weapons and items. There are also several missions to complete.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 Gameplay

You tactically control different characters and instead of moving characters on a map like final fantasy tactics, you actually get to fully control a character in first person view.

Valkyria Chronicles Battle Map

Valkyria Chronicles 2 PSP also supports ad-hoc multiplayer mode which you can play in co-op and versus modes.

Hey, this is a really nice game from Seeeeegaaaa! Oh BTW, while the screenshots are in Japanese, Valkyria Chronicles 2 is already available in English! Check out Valkyria Chronicles 2 at Amazon.

Queens Blade Spiral Chaos | Queens Blade PSP First Impression

Queens Blade Spiral Chaos ( クイーンズブレイド )

Queens Blade ( クイーンズブレイド ) is a Japanese anime and a book game adapted to video game. Queens Blade Spiral Chaos is basically a strategy game similar to super robot wars where you arrange the characters on the screen and some cool (and sexy) animation will popup and you will see the girls battle in 2D animation and tear off clothes! Haaaa!

The game has been released for sometime... The Queens Blade Japanese Release Date was way back on December 17, 2009. Will we get a North American or US release? Well... Judging from the nudity content of the game and the low interest in the US market about games like this, it is very unlikely... But that's just our opinion. The odds are still of course with Bandai Namco Games.

Spiral Chaos Battle Animation

The Queens Blade Story is a battle among women to become the next queen. The PSP Game features unique queens blade characters including Cute, Jean, Dora, Lamica, Puia, Arane, and Cerate.

Queens Blade PSP Gameplay

Is Queens Blade Hentai game? While it might seem so because the game features nudity, we are inclined to believe that it's not. Spiral Chaos is a high quality game, especially if you watch the queens blade trailer on youtube. This is certainly a game that showcases the power of the PSP when it comes to 2D games! But really, it'll be very hard to explain to your girlfriend why you're playing this game...

Check out Queens Blade Spiral Chaos at Amazon.

What We Think:

  • Impressive animation

  • Interesting gameplay

  • *Interesting* character design
